Eagle Sketch

I will be working on an illustration project with someone this year, and although I can’t really give details about that project, one thing I will say is that it will require mostly line work from me.  My work is usually digital painting that relies on values, so for now I’m planning to do a lot of small sketches to practice and warm up for doing detailed line drawings.  My instinct is to start shading everything because that’s how I’m use to working.  I think I’m going to have to do a lot of these for practice.

Some of these drawings I may eventually use for a digital painting.

This first one is a sketch of an Eagle.

Winter at Alum Creek

This winter landscape photograph was taken last year.  We really haven’t had a whole lot of snow yet this year.  It was taken at Alum Creek, Ohio, right after a big snowfall where the trees still had snow on the branches.  I love the little pop of color from leaves that somehow still managed to hang onto the trees even during winter.

Two Horses

These two quarter horses took a break from their snack to pose for my picture.  We had stopped at a farm to take pictures, and the owner seemed thrilled to show them off.  They were bit dirty, but he didn’t care.  He was so proud of his horses.

Boss The Bulldog

This guy was a pet portrait commission that I did for someone.  I used acrylic paints, which was a bit of a change for me because lately I have mostly worked in digital art.  It was a lot of fun, and the owner was pleased with her painting.

This dog named Boss apparently helped save his owner.  The husband had a stroke, and the dog alerted the wife.  So, I felt honored to paint such a special dog.
