Here is another line drawing I did for practice; a sketch of a cardinal. I’m trying to work on line variation, and doing small studies like this has been helpful so far. I’m also doing a digital painting to add color, but I’m not finished with that yet.
I thought I’d share my digital painting WIP. I had posted the drawing earlier, but I’ll post part of it here again so you can see the comparison. I actually like both the drawing and digital painting, so ultimately I might make prints for both versions. I recorded the painting process so far, so I’ll eventually upload a video when this is finished. The hardest part is the face, and that is mostly done. So, hopefully I can finish the rest of the picture tonight.
And here is the sketch
I will be working on an illustration project with someone this year, and although I can’t really give details about that project, one thing I will say is that it will require mostly line work from me. My work is usually digital painting that relies on values, so for now I’m planning to do a lot of small sketches to practice and warm up for doing detailed line drawings. My instinct is to start shading everything because that’s how I’m use to working. I think I’m going to have to do a lot of these for practice.
Some of these drawings I may eventually use for a digital painting.
This first one is a sketch of an Eagle.
Here’s a drawing I’ve been working on. I’ve always loved drawing clowns and have been for several years now. I think my clowns tend to look more like the Pierrot type of clown. Anyway, I’ll post more about all that later. For now I thought I’d share this sketch. It will more than likely be a base sketch for a digital painting, but as of now I really like the drawing too.
This is the first sketch in my new sketchbook. It will more than likely be a base sketch for a digital painting.
